The Cloud Vendors continue to push hard to win business running the Telco’s core networks. Azure now claims they can reduce carrier opex by 40%. If true, this will push a lot of operators into the warm embrace of the Cloud.
The cloud service providers – AWS, GCP and Azure – have to support the software of all their customers, this complicates the case for them building their own chips.
Is the Cloud Your Friend? – The big cloud service providers are buying up the world’s communications infrastructure and they are funding those purchases by the enormous profits they make on their core services. Hard to see this trend going on indefinitely
MWC 2021 Wrap-Up – Despite MWC’s minimalist approach this year, there was still a fair amount of news this year – largely in the software realm as the Cloud eats Telco and Open RAN starts to come into its own.
